For the Belgian racquet company Donnay, brand image was everything – one that they established by equipping the biggest stars of the sport’s golden age. Once the world’s largest manufacturer of tennis racquets, the abrupt exit of their former poster boy sponsor, Swedish star Bjorn Borg, led to their eventual bankruptcy and what seemed an almost certain demise.

By the late 80's however, Donnay's costly acquisition of rising superstar Andre Agassi seemed a surefire way to revitalize the brand... instead, the gamble proved to be one of tennis history's greatest misfires.
