CHICAGO, Ill. — The Lansing Journal's Meredith Shamburger sat down with Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi to get an overview about how property taxes and the reassessment process works.
Both Bloom and Thornton Townships are due for their triannual reassessment this year. Property owners will receive a reassessment notice in the mail containing the following information:
--New estimated Fair Market Value of their property.
--The date on which a township opens for appeal is listed below.
--A property owner has until the date listed under "last file date" to file an appeal if they choose to do so.
Assessments are then used to determine a property owner's tax bill.
