As coffee oils and residue collect inside your machine over time, it is essential to keep it clean by performing clearwater backflushes on a regular basis. We recommend that you backflush after each coffee tasting session to ensure that your shots taste perfect.
Follow this guide to perform a clearwater backflush on the Barista Express and take good care of the inside of your machine.

Here are the steps to perform a clearwater backflush on your machine:
1. Place the one-cup basket into the portafilter
2. Then place the blind basket into the portafilter and lock it into the group head
3. Press the one-cup button and allow pressure to build up for 20 seconds
4. Press the one-cup button again to stop, the water will then get flushed back out through the drip tray
5. Repeat the process 3 to 4 times
