The “Tell me about yourself” question makes most people ramble.

Instead, stick to this 3-step formula:

🍊 Step 1: Open with an overarching statement.

Set the stage with who you are professionally, focused on this role.

Example: “I’m a Human Resources leader who specializes in growth-stage companies in the technology industry.”

🍊 Step 2: Share career highlights.

Walk through your most recent 2–3 roles, highlighting accomplishments relevant to the role.

Example: “In my most recent role at X Company, I led the HR department and improved retention by 15%.”

🍊 Step 3: Tie it to this opportunity.

End by showing why this role is the natural next step for you.

Example: “When I read the job description, I was excited to see I’d get to work on X and Y, exactly the areas I want to deepen my expertise in.”

This formula keeps you concise, confident, and focused.
