How does a volcano erupt?
The answer lies within Earth's three layers,
The core, mantle, and crust!

The core is deep in the middle of the planet,
And man, it's hot so far down!
Next up. is the mantle with the crust right above it,
Which includes our beloved ground!
The heat from the core melts rocks in the mantle,
Like wax on a candle and then,
With gases, it mixes and that makes a liquid called,
Magma, say it again!

They call it magma,
Magma, that scorching molten rock!
But, how on earth does it make its way,
Up through to the light of the day?

Well the land below our feet is divided into pieces,
Called tectonic plates!
Like a jigsaw puzzle, but the pieces shuffle,
Around at a sluggish pace!
And depending on the flow of the magma below,
They may bump or pull apart!
When that creates gaps, there's a pressure change fast,
And that's how eruptions start!

Because the pressure,
Pressure shoots magma right on through!
And in a flash you'll see a splash of,
Hot lava fondue!
