In 1957 Sir Vivian Fuchs and his team set out to lead the first party across the entire continent of Antarctica by land. In addition to being the first to make this journey the team was to collect huge amounts of scientific data that would tell us more than ever before about this mysterious land mass.
In the centre of the Hawking Building at the Science and Innovation park, sits one of the key vehicles from the expedition- a tracked snow vehicle- the Tucker Sno-Cat. Join curator Heather Bennett as she details how this striking vehicle made the perilous journey to the South Pole and beyond and what those discoveries made in the 1950s mean to us today.
