After much research both in books and archaeological sites in Italy in the summer of 2023, I have compiled here a basic overview of Roman private religion. I showcase here the main types of household shrines and show where in a Roman home they were found. I also present the gods worshiped at these shrines, some of the typical offerings made to them and even reconstruct some simple prayers based on ancient texts. More could be said, but I have reduced the content to what I think suitable for an introduction to this fascinating but occasionally elusive material.
