On a quiet Friday in 1969, 20-year-old Ted Conrad walked out of Cleveland's Society National Bank with a brown paper bag containing $215,000 hidden under a bottle of whiskey and a carton of cigarettes, pulling off one of America's most baffling unsolved heists. Inspired by watching the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair between 6 and 12 times, Conrad vanished into thin air, aided by a lack of security cameras, zero fingerprint records, and the distraction of the Apollo 11 moon launch the following week. This audacious crime sparked a relentless, multi-generational manhunt by the US Marshals spanning 5 decades.
