As part of our #CTEAwarenessMonth webinar series, CLF Legacy Family Community Coordinator Samantha Pyle Buono led a discussion on how CTE impacts families. Samantha first became acquainted with CLF in 2015 when her father passed away after years of struggling with cognitive and behavioral issues believed to be related to his years playing high school, college, and professional football. He was later diagnosed with Stage 4 CTE.
She was joined by:
Lori Mohr, wife of legacy donor, Jim Mohr who died by suicide at the age of 60 having played college football at Northern Arizona. He was later diagnosed with Stage 3 CTE.
Val Tuerk, mother of legacy donor, Max Tuerk, a 4-year starter at USC who played two seasons in the NFL. He was later diagnosed with Stage 1 CTE at age 26.
Irene Gottlieb, spouse of former professional rugby New Zealand All Black, Geoff Old, who is currently living with suspected CTE. Irene has been a CTE community advocate since 2009 and is actively supporting CLF’s efforts across the globe, particularly in New Zealand where she currently resides with her husband.
