Climate change is increasingly driving extreme weather events such as floods and droughts. One of the mediating factors that can lead to these events developing into conflict is a rise in food insecurity. In this explainer video, you will learn the definition of this concept as well as its four dimensions: availability, access, utilisation and stability. Experts also outline paths for boosting food security and adaptation to climate change in a conflict-sensitive way and point to ways forward for a more food secure world.

This video was filmed during the 2023 Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC). The explainer contains interviews with several experts on the field, namely David Ismay (Head of Sustainability and Public Policy, Gro Intelligence), Dhesigen Naidoo (Senior Research Associate, Institute for Security Studies), Grazia Pacillo (Co-lead, CGIAR FOCUS Climate Security), Linda Ogallo (IGAD Climate Security Mechanism), Michael Werz (Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress), Raquel Munayer (Consultant, adelphi), Susanne Fries-Gaier (Director for Humanitarian Assistance, Geman Federal Foreign Office).

Direction, production and scriptwriting: Laís Clemente Pereira (adelphi)
Script supervision: Raquel Munayer (adelphi)
Camera and editing: Paulus Müller-Hahl (Lichtbilder)
The production of this video is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
