In this interview, Scott shares his journey from a deeply evangelical upbringing in the Bible Belt to becoming an agnostic atheist. Raised around homeschooling, Awana, Christian schools, Bible memorization, end-times thinking, apologetics, young-earth creationism, and a serious desire to live out his faith, Scott’s story is not one of “never really believing.” It is the story of someone who believed sincerely, served seriously, asked careful questions, and eventually found that the answers he had been given could no longer hold the weight of reality.

Scott talks about the early questions that quietly stayed with him, including biblical violence, Sheol, failed expectations around prophecy, gospel authorship, evolution, the historical reliability of the Bible, and the painful realization that he had never really examined Christianity the way he had examined other religions. After moving to Idaho and learning how to critique Mormonism, he began to notice the same walls, programming, and predetermined conclusions inside his own faith. That moment became a turning point, as the walls came down and he began asking whether truth should need to be assumed before it can be found.

This conversation also explores mixed-faith marriage, fear of losing family, the loneliness of deconstruction, the courage to be authentic, the emotional weight of telling loved ones, and the beauty of finding meaning, love, and empathy after Christianity. Scott’s story is thoughtful, honest, grounded, and deeply human, a quiet but powerful reminder that leaving faith is often less like rebellion and more like finally telling the truth with trembling hands.
