What if kitchen waste could power an airport? At Changi Airport, thatโs exactly what is happening.
A new renewable diesel trial is transforming used cooking oil into clean fuel for specialised airport vehicles, helping to create a greener future.
The Main Ingredient: Used Cooking Oil โป๏ธ
It all starts with used cooking oil (UCO) collected from F&B partners at Changi. This UCO is a key sustainable feedstock for producing renewable diesel.
The Green Machine: Neste's Refinery ๐งช
The UCO is transported to Neste Singaporeโs refinery, the world's largest renewable diesel refinery. Using advanced technologies, it is converted into high-quality renewable diesel that powers heavy vehicles like airport runway sweepers and runway rubber removal vehicles.
A Vision for the Future ๐
The trial began with a 50% renewable diesel blend, which has now been upped to 100%. When using a 100% renewable diesel blend, it can achieve up to 90% less greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel's life cycle. This initiative is aligned with Singaporeโs vision for all vehicles to run on cleaner energy by 2040, helping Changi Airport move towards its net-zero emissions goals.
