Australia India Institute Director, Professor Craig Jeffrey, will join Professor Fazal Rizvi to explore how Australia might collaborate with India to protect and advance the function of universities as providers of ‘public value’.
The speakers will suggest that a focus on universities as providers of the public good within their city or city-region could be a foundation for common discussion between Australian universities and Indian universities.
Professor Craig Jeffrey is Director of the Australia India Institute and former Professor of Development Geography at the University of Oxford and Official Fellow of St. John's College. He is a leading authority on South Asian youth and writes on Indian democracy, educational transformation, globalisation, and the 'social revolution' that he sees occurring across India in the Twenty-First Century.
Professor Fazal Rizvi is a Professor of Global Studies in Education at the University of Melbourne, as well as an Emeritus Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has written extensively on issues of identity in transnational contexts, globalisation and education policy.
