As we strive to address climate change, Canada is implementing step codes to elevate building standards. These codes, established nationally, are progressively being adopted by provinces, with Quebec notably leading the charge.

Step codes are driving the push for increased thermal performance in new constructions. Condos, with their inherent design complexity, face unique challenges and opportunities.

While thermal breaks in balconies aren't mandatory yet, their future inclusion is inevitable. Without proper thermal breaks, heat can easily escape through balcony structures, undermining the building's energy efficiency. By reducing the TEDI (Thermal Energy Demand Intensity) number, we can significantly enhance a building's thermal performance.
