On this episode of Neon Galactic, we sit down with Kimberly Engels, a member of the Society for UAP Studies, an associate professor of philosophy at Molloy University, research director at the John Mack Institute, and past president of the North American Sartre Society.
We discuss phenomenology, and how it applies to the subject and study of unidentified anomalous phenomena, non-human intelligence, and other kinds of anomalous encounters.
Through such a philosophical approach, she points out, researchers emphasize the importance of first-person experience and clearly acknowledge the impossibility of completely removing subjectivity in scientific research.
Engels is involved in the Archives of the Impossible metadata analysis project, and she outlines some initial patterns that are emerging from that effort.
We also talk about the western scientific worldview, and how it compares with the North American indigenous conception of reality, especially as it relates to anomalous phenomena.
Engels also describes how the dismissal of UAP and NHI experiences, as well as the culturally rejected traditions of non-western populations, functions as a kind of epistemic injustice, a devaluing of individual experience and perspective.
