What does grinding do to the surface of a hardened steel component?

Commercial collaboration: ABB Robotics

We inspected a ground bearing using Barkhausen noise measurement and X-ray diffraction. The measurements showed how grinding affects the surface residual stresses and hardness — and at the same time, we saw how a robot can perform extremely precise X-ray measurements for industrial quality control.
