African textiles are more than beautiful patterns. They carry history, identity, and meaning.
In this reflective video, I revisit two handmade bags I created using Ankara wax print and bogolanfini mud cloth, and share how African textiles have influenced my design journey over the years.
From the bold energy of Ankara to the earthy depth of mud cloth, these fabrics tell stories through color, texture, and symbol. Working with them shaped not only my bag designs, but also the way I think about culture, inspiration, and respect in handmade work.
As an African American woman and designer, my connection to Africa is layered. This video is part of my personal reflection during Black History Month, honoring the global influence of African textiles while acknowledging the artisans and traditions behind them.
