On August 21st, 1986, more than 1,700 people in west Cameroon were killed within minutes of each other, and no one, not even the survivors, of which there were few, knew what had happened. But it wasn’t just people. The livestock, birds, even the flies that should have been buzzing around the corpses, all dead. It was as if a nuclear weapon had gone off, except… nothing was burned or even damaged.
Someone, or something had swiftly and silently exterminated nearly every living thing in the area, and somehow, without leaving a trace.
But investigators had to start somewhere, and luckily there were a handful of survivors whose stories offered valuable clues that would eventually lead them to the true culprit behind the massacre.
