What did God actually say when Israel entered the Promised Land?
The Scriptures tell us that Israel inherited cities they did not build, houses they did not fill, wells they did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees they did not plant. But God also gave Israel a solemn command concerning the stranger dwelling among them: “Thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
In this broadcast, we examine Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Joshua, and the prophets and then follow these powerful images into the New Testament. Jesus speaks of living water springing up into everlasting life. He declares, “I am the true vine.” He is the cornerstone, His people are living stones, and together they become a spiritual house in which God dwells by His Spirit.
What happens when we read these passages together—the land Israel was given, the people who already lived there, God's command to love the stranger, and the deeper spiritual realities revealed in Christ?
