House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and GOP leaders will speak Tuesday as lawmakers prepare to take up a Senate-passed stop-gap funding bill aimed at averting another government shutdown by the Sept. 30 deadline.

The continuing resolution, if passed, would extend government funding through Dec. 11. The Senate advanced the measure earlier this month. The CR also includes a provision temporarily halting a White House budget rule that would give political appointees more authority over the distribution of federal grants.

Republicans are also expected to address other key priorities, including a resolution condemning socialism and a possible House vote to censure Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) following an Ethics Committee report concerning his conduct with two young staff members.
