This is a montage of this tiny Cardinal chicks first feedings. It hatched in the morning and is very hungry! It is hard to tell how small this chick really is. The chick is only about an inch and a half long. The parents have to be very careful while feeding the new chick as it is very fragile and weak. In these clips you will notice the cardinal parents take longer to feed the chick than other birds. They are very cautious. The chicks mouth is so small the parents frequently have to chew up the food first. It is a very interesting process to watch! You will notice in future videos that this first chick that hatched is already bigger than the one that hatches in the evening. They grow so quick!
