El Baja Bug es un casting de Hot Wheels basado en el Volkswagen Beetle y diseñado por Larry Wood . La herramienta debutó en la Serie Real Riders de 1984 .
El Escarabajo de Baja obtuvo su nombre debido al hecho de que la península de Baja California, en el noroeste de México, es el hogar de la carrera todoterreno "Mexican 1000". Los Baja Bugs se desarrollaron a fines de la década de 1960 como una alternativa casera a los buggies de playa Meyers Manx con cuerpo de fibra de vidrio del período de tiempo que sobresalía en el terreno arenoso y montañoso.
Para hacer un Baja Bug, toma un VW Beetle estándar, corta las partes delantera y trasera del automóvil en ángulo, agrega paneles de relleno, molduras y guardabarros de gran tamaño, afina el motor (ahora expuesto) y Póngase un juego de llantas anchas de globo o de paleta.

The Baja Beetle got its' name due to the fact that the Baja California Peninsula in northwest Mexico is home to the "Mexican 1000" off-road race. Baja Bugs were developed in the late 1960s as a home-made alternative to the fiberglass-bodied Meyers Manx beach buggies of the time period that excelled in the sandy, hilly terrain.
To make a Baja Bug, you take a stock VW Beetle, chopped-off the front and back portions of the car at an angle, add fill-in panels, oversized trim and fenders, super tune the (now-exposed) engine, and put on a set of wide balloon or paddle-tread tires.
