On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels ’59 Chevy Impala. I received this in a very special mailing from friend of the channel Norm Humphrey, who was among my very first supporters, going back 5 years now. This is my entry to the August Four Horsemen invitational on the theme of low riders.
The Impala is a full-sized car built by Chevrolet for model years 1958-1985, 1994-1996, and 2000-2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States. The 1959 second generation Chevrolet Impala was redesigned to share body shells with lower-end Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs using a new X-frame chassis. The roof line was 3 inches lower, bodies were 2 inches wider, the wheelbase was 1-1/2 inches longer, and curb weight increased. Flattened tailfins protruded outward, rather than upward. The taillights were a large teardrop design at each side, and two slim-wide, non-functional front air intake scoops were added just above the grille.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
