Here is the best rendition of the best song Hooverphonic have ever written. "Vinegar & Salt" was a song included in the band's third album, "The Magnificent Tree" (2000). This live version was recorded at Jet Studio, Brussels by TMF at September 20th, 2000. Four songs from that session were released as b-sides to the cd-single of "Jackie Cane" at 2001, Vinegar & Salt being among them.
Geike's performance is absolutely breathtaking, mixing fragility with aethereal , the music is reduced to minimal piano sounds and some rhythm section that comes in around the middle of the song (throwing away the studio version's rich orchestration) and the outcome is nothing but pure awe.
At the time, the band members were:
Geike Arnaert/vocals
Raymond Geerts/guitars
Alex Callier/keyboards, bass & programming
written by Alex Callier
the copyright in this sound recording is owned by Sony music.

lyrics:
- Vinegar & Salt -
-------------------------
I like the things that you hate
And you hate the things that I like
But it hurts
Honesty's your church
But sometimes
It's better to lie
I am the vinegar and salt
And you are the oil that dissolves
My frustrations
Honesty's limitations
But sometimes
It's better to lie
I am the vinegar and salt
And you are the oil that dissolves my frustrations
Limitations
But sometimes
I don't dare to ask why
