During our 2022 Taste of History fundraiser, we honored Dr. John S. Burd. John S. Burd came to Gainesville in 1985 to serve as President of Brenau College. During his twenty years of remarkable leadership, Brenau grew into a premier university and became one of the most treasured and influential parts of the community. Student enrollment grew 60%, and the school’s endowment grew to twenty times its original value. Beyond his leadership with Brenau University, Dr. Burd played an important role in nearly every organization in Gainesville and Hall County, and has become known as one of the region’s most discerning art lovers. Most importantly to us, he was crucial in the creation of the History Center!
