A Civil Beat review of a sample of court cases from the state Judiciary found the number of traffic citations in District 8, which stretches from ʻEwa to Kaʻena Point, rose from 146 in July 2024 to 294 in December, four months after the surge began.
Police say increased traffic enforcement was part of their plan. More traffic stops, they say, helps calm criminal activity.
Many residents welcome the increased enforcement of traffic laws, but others believe their community has been long neglected and this is another example of how they’ve been unfairly targeted.
