A deep dive look into the video game "Honey Defender, Case of the Honey Heist," an incredibly immersive explorer game that lets kids play as Buzz, the popular mascot from the box and tied in the stories from the beautifully produced ads seen on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Toon Disney.
Saatchi & Saatchi NY and Pat-Man Studios (Pat Giles and Manny Galán) produced the games in and cut scenes with Primal Screen and Monumental (Daniel Crowder), both based in Atlanta.
"I remember we were flying to Atlanta together, and ended up in separated seats, Manny had blocked out and written all the key information to build the game including thumbnail character designs on one sheet of paper," says Pat Giles. "We went on to extend the concept into augmented reality cereal boxes. It was a really thrilling brand to work on."
The story extends the stories seen in the commercials, with villains like Yellow Jack the Pirate, Yellow Jacket the villainous wasp from "Honey Heist," Handsome Hector from "Honeyway Train" and the Mumbee from "Morning at the Museum." The campaign was led by @thepatgiles Pat Giles and @Spaceprince72 with art direction and storybards from @SIRCRACKALOT Brad Rodriguez. The animated spots (that can be seen on this channel also) were animated by LAIKA with orchestral scoring by @endlessnoise.
Seen here for the first time in one video, we share both the video game (that you can only play by using a hexographic code on the back of specially marked boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios cereal) and the augmented reality game produced in Australia for a global audience.
