Home to Roost - John Thaw is Henry Willows, a middle-aged man in middle-management who has been divorced from his wife for seven years and is perfectly happy with the arrangement. Apart from his prudish and persnickety daily cleaner Enid (Elizabeth Bennett), he's alone--and he revels in his hard-won solitude. However, Henry's serenity is shattered when, out of the blue, his eldest child Matthew (Reece Dinsdale) turns up on his doorstep. It seems that Matthew is disenchanted with life at home because of his mum's new boyfriend and wants to stay with his dad--for good.
After Matthew has helped himself to two pounds from his father's small change jar,Henry declares him unemployable and takes him to the job centre. Matthew does actually get a job - as a waiter in a wine bar. Unfortunately this is the same wine bar where Henry,expecting promotion,is lunching with his boss who knows nothing of Matthew's existence. But he is about to find out as the lad's first and last days in the job coincide.
