East Tennessee’s only local beer distributor celebrated its 90th anniversary on Saturday.
Founded in 1934, Holston Distributing invited employees, their families and the company’s closest friends to commemorate the occasion with food, entertainment, awards and–of course–some beer.
Frank Wood, current owner and CEO of Holston Distributing, is the grandson of William Franklin Raban, who founded the company back in 1934; Wood’s father took over company operations in 1972, and Wood himself assumed his role over the company about 14 years ago.
“We just wanted to celebrate the three generations and ninety years,” said Holston Distributing General Manager Mike Hubbard. “Frank doesn’t know why his grandfather started (the company), but we’re just glad he did.”
Holston Distributing has 48 employees, and is known for being the Anheuser-Busch distributor for Northeastern Tennessee, although the company supplies countless other products.
Having endured throughout three generations and ninety years in the region, Holston Distributing is looking forward to remaining an integral part of the community.
“I don’t know what’s in store for the next ninety years, I just know we’re always looking for new products,” Hubbard said. “I hope in another 180 years they’re having another celebration and that my picture is up there somewhere (for) making a difference in the company.”
