#SusanSarandon is one of Hollywoods greats, most of us have grown up watching her on screen! While in Venice premiering her new movie #TheEchoChamber she’s talking openly about what she says it has cost her to speak out for Palestine. She says she’s “still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still. She also said the director, Andrea Pallaoro, was told not to work with her but did anyway.
“I thank Andrea for that, because he doesn’t listen to the warnings.”
It makes me think about being blacklisted, being shut out, being quietly punished for speaking up and how often people might agree with you privately but stay silent publicly because they’re afraid of what standing beside you could cost them. I have spoken out against bullies in work environments for others and myself.. tbh most times I’ve stood alone. The power is with the people and standing together is so important but one person can make a difference whether that’s in an office speaking up against a bully or a red carpet in my case.
Sometimes you do what you believe is right and find yourself standing there alone.
Would you risk your career to speak out if you knew nobody might stand with you and you may get blacklisted for it 😬
