This was maybe the hardest boss in the game for me, mostly due to the 2-damage per hit. In the end, I found it easiest to put on a magic loadout:
Shaman Stone, Spell Twister, those little bug guys that follow you around, the stink cloud (which synergizes with the bugs) for automatic damage, and soul catcher to help keep my magic level up.
