Friday - 30 May 2025
2.5 hour train to Füssen then a bus to Hohenschwangau. We barely made our scheduled time for the guided group tour of Hohenschwangau Castle. Shannon had literally hit a wall and it was a long vertical climb, but she persevered. No pictures/video allowed inside the castle.
After the tour, we walked around the town and ate another wurst before catching a bus to Neuschwanstein Castle site. More vertical walking to a look out point and the exterior of the castle. We did have tickets to see the interior, but we had to abandon the plans in order to catch the train back to Füssen. Originally, we had a rental car booked to travel between Munich and Füssen, but because the first rental car experience was miserable, we cancelled and took a train instead. There was also a championship soccer game in Munich, which would make the experience worse.
If we had it to do again, we would've fully relocated from Munich to the Fussen area as there are around 18 castles and the hotels were more affordable. Munich had a Boston financial district vibe and we preferred the small town/village vibe.

Subway to the airport. We got there earlier than expected so ended up people watching. 8 hour flight back to Boston then a taxi home.

Egypt - Wednesday June 12th, 2019 [Day 8]
5:20AM wake up call and 5:45AM departure from the ship. Walking through the city of Esna to find a temple 30 feet below street level. Does that much earth build up in 3500 years?
At the 1:30 mark I said centuries, but it should be millennia.

Egypt - Thursday, June 6th, 2019 [Day 2]
Giza Teasa - makes sense if you say it with a Boston accent.
Laughable short bus ride to the Giza Plateau to look at a Basalt floor for evidence of advance machining and then a photo op. I managed to stray a bit for other pictures, but overall disappointed because I expected a full day at Giza.
I learned from this experience and stop staying with the guides. We also visit Giza on our own on the last day (against the advice of the guides).
