This week on Pilot’s Perspective, we’re stepping away from powered warbirds and waterplanes and taking a close look at something a little different but very much in Avios’ wheelhouse.

The Avios Kobuz is a large, aerobatic sport-scale RC glider based on the full-size SZD-21 Kobuz, a single-seat aerobatic sailplane designed and built in Poland. With Avios’ long history of designing beautifully flying semi-scale aircraft, it’s no surprise that their first serious foray into a high-performance aerobatic glider delivers in a big way.
With a generous 2200 mm wingspan, full-span flaps, and incredibly clean lines, the Kobuz is just as happy cruising slowly on lift as it is carving up the sky with energetic aerobatics. It features excellent climb performance under power, impressive glide efficiency, and superb energy retention once the motor is shut down.
In this episode, we also highlight the stunning hi-viz Swiss colour scheme, with clearly different top and bottom surfaces for excellent orientation — especially when flying high or at distance. One standout feature is the large, detailed canopy, giving easy access to the battery and radio compartment, with plenty of space if you want to explore an FPV conversion.

• A positive clip-on wing system with PCB servo connections for fast field assembly
• A strong carbon woven main spar
• Servo covers on all wing servos
• An anti-scratch fuselage plate for grass and hard landings
• Ball-link pushrods throughout for precise control
• A removable twin-bolt horizontal stabiliser for easy transport
• And even a dedicated storage bay inside the fuselage for the carbon spar
The Kobuz comes in PNF (Plug-N-Fly) format, with factory installed electronics including a powerful 3548-750 KV brushless motor, folding prop and spinner, Aerostar RVS G2 50 A ESC, and metal-geared servos throughout. Control surfaces include ailerons, elevator, rudder, throttle, and flaps with the ability to program crow braking for steep, accurate spot landings if your radio supports it.
Assembly is fast and stress-free thanks to the low parts count and minimal gluing required, making it ideal for pilots who want more time flying and less time building.
