Hoatzins (Opisthocomus hoazin) at the Wisirare Lodge, Yopal, Casanare, Colombia. Guide: Fernando Guarin.
This chicken-sized bird is one of the strangest and most enigmatic species of bird in the world. They are completely vegetarians and eat mainly leaves. Because of aromatic compounds in the leaves they consume, and the bacterial fermentation required to digest them, the birds have a disagreeable odor. That is why local people call it sometimes the stinkbird.
