My total paddling distance was 35.5km. I paddled under 7 bridges including Footbridge Rd, Glen Morris Rd, the CN Dundas Subdivision railway bridge, William St, Dundas St W, Highway 403, and the Oak Hill Trail bridge. Another point of interest I passed was the Murray Overlook where there are old stone pillars in the river from the ruins of a Great Western Railway bridge. I portaged around two dams: The Penmans Dam in Paris and the Wilkes Dam in Brantford. After completing the first portage I went for a walk around the streets of Paris, stopped to buy sunglasses from Home Hardware and ate lunch at a restaurant called edit. Dogsledding in Iqaluit, Nunavut - Tour of Frobisher Bay cjhoyle 2024-03-04 | This video shares my Thursday June 1, 2023 dogsledding experience in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. While visiting this city on business, I extended my trip by a few days to explore everything that Iqaluit had to offer. I made arrangements with a local tour company to go on an evening of dogsledding. During the late spring, there isn't enough snow for this activity on land, so instead they use the ice on Frobisher Bay. So I met up with the group at the Causeway Dock, across from Iqaluit, and from there we headed out and did a loop around Mair Island. Our total distance was about 18km and the dogs averaged a speed of 11.2km/hr.In this video I have done my best to share the video highlights from the excursion, while presenting the information I've learned from the experience.I filmed this using my GoPro HERO 9 Black action camera and Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone.I hope you enjoyed this video. Vision R40 Recumbent Bike - Overview cjhoyle 2023-10-23 | This video is a detailed review of my Vision R40 Recumbent Bicycle which was manufactured in approximately 2002 or 2003. After detailing the basic specs of the bike, I give a brief history of this model and the company that made it. There are some parts of the bike that I go into more detail about, such as the seat, the steering and the length adjustment. I wrap thing up with a quick explanation about how to ride the bike and a summary of what I love / don't love about the bike.I bought this bike in late November 2022 and I filmed this video approximately 11 months later. During this period I rode the bike nearly 2,000 km, almost exclusively within Toronto, ON, Canada.The Vision R40 was manufactured in Seattle, WA by Advanced Transportation Products Inc (ATP). This model was produced from 1993 until 2003, and its unique selling feature was the ability to convert between Short Wheel Base (SWB) and Long Wheel Base (LWB), and also between Under-seat Steering (USS) and Over-seat Steering (OSS). Biking in Iqaluit, Nunavut - Narrated Ride cjhoyle 2023-06-12 | This video shows my Friday June 2nd, 2023 cycling tour through Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. The video begins at the Iqaluit Airport (YFB) towards the northwest end of town. From there I followed Ungalliqpaat and joined Federal Rd heading Southeast. After a quick detour past the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, I briefly rode along Mivvik St before joining Queen Elizabeth to continue through the centre of town. After passing Northmart, I turned onto Sinaa to ride along next to the frozen water of Frobisher Bay before turning north onto Qajaq, and returning Northwest along Nipisa St and Palaugaa. After making a left turn onto Niaqunngusiariaq I ended the video just east of Federal Rd.Some of the points of interest that I passed along the ride include: a view of the newer houses built on the Plateau, the baseball field, the Aqsarniit Hotel (the new hotel), the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, the Black Heart Café, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) building, the Qimugjuk Building, the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, RBC Financial Group, the Iqaluit Canada Post office, a dental clinic, CIBC bank, Tim Hortons, Northmart, Nakasuk School (elementary school), the Unikkaarvik Visitor Centre, the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum, the Iqaluit Harbour pier, the KFC / Pizza Hut / Quick Stop, the Snack restaurant, the Frobisher Inn, St. Jude's Anglican Cathedral and the Iqaluit Aquatic Centre.In this video I was riding a CCM Inception bicycle which I borrowed. We also passed several communities and neighbourhoods including: Nashville, Kleinburg, Elder Mills, Vaughan Mills, Woodbridge, Humber Summit, Mount Olive, Thistletown, Humbermede, Pelmo Park - Humberlea, Weston, Humber Heights, Westmount, Roselands, Scarlett Mills, Lambton Mills, Warren Park, Baby Point, The Kingsway, Old Mill, Swansea, and Humber Bay Shores. All these locations are within the municipalities of Caledon (Peel Region), King Township (York Region), Vaughan (York Region) and Toronto. Skating on the Trent-Severn Waterway - Peterborough cjhoyle 2023-02-06 | This video shows a segment of my Sunday February 5th, 2023 skating adventure on the Trent Severn Waterway in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Completed in 1920, the Trent-Severn Waterway spans a total distance of 386km, connecting Lake Ontario with Lake Huron through a series of 44 locks. In this video I skated approximately 800 metres from the top of Ashburnham Lock #20 to the bottom of the Peterborough Lift Lock #21 (not #19 as I accidentally called it in the video). This portion of the river also include a 14km Oxbow! As I paddled through the heart of Brantford I pulled the canoe over to the side of the river so I could get a sneak peak at Brantford and stop at Tim Hortons. After completing the second portage I went for a walk around the streets of downtown Galt and stopped to pick-up some dinner. While I was able to do this, unfortunately the data was not usable because the camera hadn't successfully resolved my location before I started filming. Because I was interested in seeing what my route looks like on the map, I decided to approximate it by drawing a line on Google Earth while reviewing the video footage. The Great Trail - Waterloo to Kitcheners Victoria Park - Narrated Bike Ride cjhoyle 2022-01-03 | This video shows my Thursday November 11th, 2021 cycling tour of a portion of The Great Trail (Trans-Canada Trail) through Waterloo and Kitchener Ontario. The video begins at the intersection of Bearinger Road & Parkside Drive / Wes Graham Way and ends in downtown Kitchener's Victoria Park. I began by heading south along the Laurel Trail through the University of Waterloo's David Johnson Research and Technology Park. This trail runs parallel to GRT's Ion LRT route. After crossing Columbia St, I then passed through the University of Waterloo campus and Waterloo Park. In Uptown Waterloo the trail follows a multi-use path along Caroline Street South which connects to the Iron Horse Trail which took me into Kitchener. What Do I Pack for a Canoe Trip on a Canal System? cjhoyle 2021-12-02 | This is a detailed behind-the-scenes video which shows all of the items that I brought with me (and why) on my solo canoe trip on the Rideau Canal in August/September 2021. One year earlier I did a very similar trip on the Trent-Severn Waterway where I brought most of the same gear. On both of these trips I primarily camped along the way on the grounds of the lockstations. This type of trip is quite different from a backcountry canoe or kayak trip because each night there is clean drinking water, bathroom facilities, and electricity. There is also access to stores and restaurants along the way. Another aspect which makes these trips unique is that if you purchase a Lock Pass for your canoe/kayak, you won't need to do any portages.I decided to make this video because it was a subject that I received a lot of questions about when I posted videos from my Trent-Severn Waterway trip. I filmed this in the afternoon of Day 8 of my Rideau Canal trip. The video begins at the intersection of Richmond St & Oxford St and ends just north of Colborne St & Pall Mall St. I began by heading south along Richmond St until I reached Horton St E where I turned west and rode over to Talbot St to head north. I next turned left onto Bathurst St which took me to Ridout St where I could continue further north. After crossing over the CN Rail tracks, I turned right onto York St which I followed until I reached Talbot St, where I could head north again. At Dundas St I turned right and headed west along the Dundas St Bikeway to Colborne St where there's a protected intersection.
