Hitachi Energy’s HVDC technology is at the heart of the IFA2 interconnection that can power up to one million homes with more clean energy.
“Interconnexion France-Angleterre 2” (IFA2) is a critical transmission link running beneath the English Channel between the UK and France. The link is an essential step to integrate the English and French electricity markets further.
IIFA2 uses Hitachi Energy’s HVDC Light® voltage source converter (VSC) technology, a solution pioneered by Hitachi Energy some 25 years ago. Since its launch, this technology has become the dominant HVDC solution in Europe due to a number of sophisticated features that are especially useful for integrating renewable power generation and efficient subsea transmission.
