An Iroquoian group of Native Americans, mostly Seneca and Cayuga, who moved west from New York to the Ohio Country in the middle of the 18th century, together with their descendants, are known as the Mingo people. Along with them, several Susquehannock survivors assimilated. These migrants were referred to by Anglo-Americans as mingos, a corruption of the Eastern Algonquian term mingwe, which refers to Iroquoian-speaking people generally. "Ohio Iroquois" and "Ohio Seneca" are other names for the Mingo.
