King David's polygamy led him to kill Uriah & commit adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11)
King Solomon's polygamy led him to marry woman from foreign nations which caused idol worship within Israel (1 Kings 11).
Abraham was never commanded by God to be a polygamist. In fact it was Sarah's idea since she did not believe God would bless her with a child. See Genesis 16:1-4 & 15. Sarah laughed at the idea of having a child in her old age. See Genesis 18 :13.
These stories are warnings not prescriptions
Bible is clear that polygamy was NEVER allowed
Deut 17:17 "Neither shall he multiply wives to himself..."
1 Tim 3:2 & 12 (see also 1 Tim 5:9, Titus 1:6, etc) "husband of one wife"
Titus 2:5 woman should have their OWN husbands (not shared with other woman)
see also 1 Corinthians 7:2
"Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband."
This verse clearly forbids the practice of polygamy. Every adult should have their OWN exclusive spouse.
