For 750 years Wickham Fair has taken place on the 20th May. If the 20th falls on a Sunday then the fair always happens on Monday 21st May.
The fair is protected by Royal Charter and the fun fair has been run by the Wall family for several generations. The Wall family are as much a part of Wickham as any other resident, having been a part of the community for decades.
After the horse trading all but died out the funfair continued, even during the war years. Buck Wall reintroduced the horse fair side of things and that has grown and the funfair has shrunk. The horse fair is reportedly one of the largest in the UK.
