On Tuesday, another scandal-plagued congressman will face a verdict from Florida’s Republican voters.
Rep. Cory Mills’ record includes accusations of stolen valor, a restraining order from an ex, a House Ethics investigation, a reported Department of Justice investigation, and more. He’s been rejected by several members of his own party, but still has a February endorsement from President Donald Trump.
Mills spent some of the final days of his campaign texting Mother Jones reporter Noah Lanard about several of the scandals he is facing, including his relationship with a woman who was just out of high school when he was in his 40s, who reportedly later described the relationship as “exploitative.”
“Adults are entitled to date in an attempt to find their person,” Mills texted Noah. "I find it sick that you and others obsess over my dating life."
If he wins, it will be a testament not only to the power of a Trump endorsement but also to a Republican Party that has turned the other way when it comes to allegations of misconduct.
