It’s estimated that only 3,000 people have ever successfully scaled Mt. Everest, the world’s tallest mountain. Japanese mountain climber Hirotaka Takeuchi is among them. But that’s unremarkable when we compare to Takeuchi’s other accomplishments.
In 2012 he became the first Japanese person in history to climb the planet’s 14 highest mountains. It took 17 years of hard determination, but the only way you achieve something of this scale is to push on, to keep climbing, to place one foot in front of the other, no matter what needs to be overcome ahead.
Takeuchi always carried the words of his Grandfather as a major part of his drive to continue climbing and exploring. And this drive would regularly be tested, no climb or mountain was ever as expected and being adaptable and ready was essential. The extreme conditions of the climbs would continuously test Takeuchi to the physical and emotional limits but still the words of his Grandfather rang in his ears…. And in 2012 he stood atop 8,167m Dhaulagiri, the world’s seventh highest mountain, with his head high.
He had made it.
Tested to the limits, he had overcome all odds.
