Hirakund Dam Orissa Sambalpur

India's pride, the Hirakud Dam built across the Mahanadi, was the first river valley project of independent India. Work started on it in 1948 and it was formally inaugurated in 1957. The colossal structure, measuring 26 km in length, is one of the longest dams in the world.
