Hillary Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, making history as the first woman to represent New York in the Senate. In 2009, she was appointed the 67th Secretary of State, serving until 2013. She previously served as First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001 during the presidency of her husband, Bill Clinton. In 2016, she became the first woman nominated for president by a major U.S. political party. She ran as the Democratic candidate but lost the general election to Republican nominee Donald Trump.
During her political career, Clinton held a long record of involvement in civil and human rights issues. She has been a consistent champion of women’s rights, child welfare, and global human rights.
In this clip, Clinton shares her belief that it is the moral imperative of the twenty-first century to “end the pervasive discrimination and degradation of women” so that they can fulfill their full rights.
