We test how much power you need for six days or more backpacking, hiking, trekking or climbing to keep your essential electronics like your phone and GPS charged. Is solar better thank power banks? We also talk about travel restrictions on planes for lithium batteries and how many and how big of power banks you can use under FAA regulations. You need to put all lithium batteries in carry-on bags and need special permission from the airline if any power bank exceeds 27,000 mAh. I estimated that I needed 9,000 mAh per day and the solar averages about 2,000 mAh if its out in the middle of the day. If you keep your phone off during most of your backpacking trip you might be able to get by with just one power bank of 10,000 mAh for a multi-day trip. Freezing weather can wipe out the lithium batteries in the power packs and your phone. Take steps to keep them warm in cold weather conditions.
