Our adventure began in the early hours of a rainy mid-January day. My wife and I had been eagerly anticipating this visit for years, and now, finally, we were here in Forks, Washington, ready to explore the enchanting Hoh Rain Forest. After 41 years of marriage, we have shared countless experiences, but this trip felt uniquely special. The rain tapping gently on the roof of our cozy cabin served as our morning call, urging us to start our day.
The hike began with us crossing a wooden bridge over a crystal-clear spring-fed stream. This stream was known to host Coho Salmon during their spawning season, and though it wasn't the season, the thought of these resilient fish returning year after year added a layer of reverence to our crossing. The water was pristine, reflecting the overhanging ferns and moss-draped branches like a perfect mirror. The scene felt almost surreal, a gateway into a world untouched by time.
The return hike was just as enchanting, though marked by a sense of fulfillment. The rain began to ease, and the forest seemed to take on a different character, as if it were bidding us farewell. By the time we reached the trailhead, the rain had stopped altogether, leaving behind a refreshed, vibrant landscape.
