This is an out and back hike (about 3 miles total) that offers a lot of bang for the buck particularly when done in late April or early May when all the wildflowers are in full bloom. Also, on clear days views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams are super cool! This is a great alternative to the famous Dog Mountain trek in that you see the same wildflowers without having to climb 3,000' and battle hordes of other hikers...
