Rick MacDonnell | Highway of Tears | Review @RickMacDonnell | Uploaded November 2019 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
Hi, I'm Rick, and I recently read one of the most affecting books of 2019: Highway of Tears by Jessica McDiarmid.
The Highway of Tears is a 725 km stretch of road in British Columbia and it is a microcosm of a national tragedy: 55 Indigenous women and girls have been murdered or have gone missing along this highway, and it's suspected that some 4000 have gone missing nationwide.
Highway of Tears (the book) is a powerful story about our ongoing failure to provide justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and a testament to their families and communities' unwavering determination to find it.
I also talk about two other books--Beyond the Trees & One Bird's Choice--but literally who gives a shit. For this moment, they don't matter.
