Thousands of new students, family members and guests gathered at Frost Amphitheater on Sept. 21 for Stanford’s 132nd Convocation ceremony, a time-honored tradition that serves as the formal inauguration of the academic year.

Some 1,738 first-year students and 47 transfer students are matriculating at Stanford this fall, hailing from all 50 states and 75 countries, and speaking 77 unique languages other than English. Among the class of 2026, 21 percent are the first in their families to attend a 4-year university.
