Final stages of testing the high-accuracy positioning on Microsoft HoloLens 2. vGIS has expanded its patented and patent-pending positioning technology to HoloLens 2 devices, and now accuracy of up to 1cm is within reach.
The positioning accuracy doesn’t suffer from the issue of “drift,” remaining stable regardless of the distance traveled away from the starting point. Additionally, the system automatically corrects heading drift to maintain alignment at 0.2° or better.
In the video, we demonstrate the real-time relationship between the GNSS receiver and the hologram positioning. As the user moves the receiver (0:00 to 0:31), the hologram position is adjusted accordingly in x, y, z space. Once the receiver is placed at the correct position relative to the HoloLens (0:32) the holograms lock with the previously surveyed environment. The placement of the receiver is controlled by the user and can be adjusted on the fly to maintain the desired accuracy. At 0:44, the system corrects a minor positional and directional misalignment, demonstrating the ability to recover from the hologram drift.
vGIS Utilities (https://www.vgis.io) is the most advanced augmented reality solution for BIM and GIS visualizations. vGIS was designed to create a more productive, enjoyable and safer working environment. The system connects to Esri ArcGIS, Bentley iTwin, Autodesk BIM 360, and other sources to seamlessly convert and aggregate data into powerful, accurate and stable 3D visuals. vGIS Utilities is deployed at over 100 sites across the world to bring real-life benefits to its users.
