Review (part 1) – This game is a direct continuation of the first game and shows and starts off with a montage of what has happened since the fame of becoming the biggest bounty hunter in the universe. Before getting to the main storyline where all the bounty hunters in the universe are now after you.
The humour is on point as always with top notch dialogue between all the characters. The humour is very adult and lude and it doesn’t shy away from any subject. I love how they reference real things and brands in the game too. Even Nintendo and Sega. There are even real life 80’s toy adverts showing on the TVs.
You now use a skateboard to travel faster around the game and it really does work well. The movement is so seamless between walking and sating and it is far more satisfying to skate , then to run. The environments are really big so being able to glide through them with the skateboard and Hookshot without stopping is excellent.
The weapons are better than the last game. The combat was always my least favourite part of the game due to the weird weapons. It was great that they made the weapons unique to other games, but they didn’t quite hit the spot like regular weapons in other games. It usually took far too long to beat enemies. They seem to have fixed that in this game and given more variety with 8 weapons to mix things up. But only near the end when you unlock the gravity gun and the bow and arrow, did I finally find satisfaction in the combat. These weapons can kill in one or 2 shots, and I felt like much more a killer than shooting with pea shooters throughout the rest of the game. The difficulty is also more fair due to the streamlining of the combat so I didn’t die anywhere near as many times as I did on the first game on normal difficulty, and I found it far less frustrating.
This game feels a bit shorter than the last game. Although it might be due to the time I spent exploring. I only tried to explore half way through the game for couple of hours for items and money, but that was all that was necessary for me to buy all the power ups. The exploration is fun though and there are lots of puzzles so this game would be worth collecting all the items for. I mean, I still got 17 hours out of it without trying to collect much so it definitely isn’t short.
